Volt Lites Inspires Warren High School Audiovisual Program Students with Behind-the-Scenes Tour

Warren High School Students Explore the World of Lighting Production at Volt Lites for a Comprehensive Insight into the Entertainment Industry

On March 7th, 2023, the Audiovisual program at Warren High School, one of the first Audiovisual and Integrated Experience Association (AVIXA) recognized programs in the United States, had an exciting opportunity to visit Volt Lites in Burbank, California. A group of over 20 students and administrators, under the guidance of instructor Robert Peterson, were given a tour of the cutting-edge facilities where Volt Lites prepares and ships out lighting solutions for the entertainment industry.

Volt Lites, a full-service lighting production company based in Burbank, California, is renowned for its experience in concert touring, television, corporate environments, houses of worship, theater, and special events. With a 1-million-square-foot industrial space in Burbank, the company has recently expanded six times its original size, making it a major player in the industry.

The two co-founders of Volt Lites, Matthew Shimamoto and Harrison Lippman, divided the students into two groups to tour the facility from one side to the other. During the tours, both Shimamoto and Lippman shared their personal journeys in the industry, starting from their high school and college years. They emphasized the wide array of careers available at Volt Lites and within the entertainment industry, providing valuable insights for the students to consider as they pursue their own paths.

The co-founders also highlighted the stories of employees who started their careers as interns at Volt Lites and have now become integral members of the team. These real-life examples demonstrated to the students how internship programs and apprenticeships can lead to successful and fulfilling careers in the industry.

Ethan Peterson, Director of Operations, and Carmen Tovar from Bayha Group facilitated the entire field trip, giving the students an invaluable insight into the world of lighting production and the entertainment industry.

During the tour, students had the unique opportunity to see the entire preparation process from intake to shipping, as well as onsite repair facilities. They were also given hands-on demonstrations of the advanced lighting equipment, allowing them to gain a deeper understanding of the tools and technology involved in professional lighting production.

Sean Glumace, Chief Operating Officer of 2CPR Group, emphasized the importance of such partnerships, stating, "It is imperative for entertainment companies to engage with local high schools in creating internship programs and apprenticeships that lead to careers within the industry. We commend Volt Lites for their dedication to nurturing the next generation of entertainment professionals."

By opening their doors to the Warren High School Audiovisual program, Volt Lites has not only showcased their commitment to supporting the future of the industry but also inspired a new generation of audiovisual professionals who will shape the future of entertainment.
