On Wednesday, January 18, 2023, a group of ambitious graphic design students from Downey High School's Design, Visual and Media Arts program ventured on an exciting field trip to Gnomon, School of Visual Effects, Games & Animation, in Los Angeles. Led by their dedicated instructor, Chris Herrera, these talented juniors and seniors had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of visual effects, thanks to the collaborative efforts of 2CPR Group and Downey Unified School District.

Upon arrival at Gnomon's cutting-edge campus, the students embarked on an informative tour that highlighted the school's state-of-the-art facilities and innovative programs. The young designers were introduced to industry-standard equipment and groundbreaking techniques employed in the visual effects, games, and animation fields. A presentation focusing on the visual effects industry in film and television shed light on the wide array of opportunities available to them.

The students also learned about Gnomon's successful alumni, many of whom have gone on to work in the industry on major motion pictures and television shows. This exposure to the accomplishments of those who have come before them served as an inspiration for the students, as they realized the potential career paths that lay ahead.

One student shared, "I gained a new understanding of how much college can teach me and that I’m not required to know everything in high school since your knowledge is meant to expand in college." Another student commented, "My major takeaway was that experience shouldn’t define what you should do. If you want to pursue something, like animation or design, it is never too late to make that decision. It is a skill set. Anyone can do it."

Sean Glumace, Co-Founder of 2CPR Group, commented, "We are thrilled to have organized this immersive field trip for Downey High School's graphic design students. The Gnomon campus tour was an ideal setting for exposing these talented young individuals to the visual effects industry and showing them the path to successful careers in this dynamic field."

During the campus visit, Gnomon kindly provided a lunch break, offering pizza and lemonade to the students. This interlude allowed the students to recharge, socialize, and discuss their impressions of the campus tour and the inspiring possibilities for their futures in visual effects and design.

The field trip proved to be an invaluable experience for the Downey High School students, leaving them with lasting inspiration and motivation to pursue their passion for graphic design and visual effects. Both Downey Unified School District and 2CPR Group remain dedicated to supporting students' educational journeys and providing them with opportunities that expand their horizons and prepare them for success in their chosen fields.
