Spooktacular Digital Media Day at Coastline College Opens New Vistas for High School Students

On the morning of October 30, 2023, students and teachers from La Quinta High, Century High from the Garden Grove Unified School District, and Estancia High from Newport Mesa Unified School District arrived at Coastline College's Garden Grove Campus, eager to explore the Digital Media Design (DMD) realm during a special Halloween-themed Pathway Day. Guided by Professor Angela Gomez-Holbrook, the event unfolded with an insightful address by Instructor Kent Nerhus, spotlighting the promising future of Drone Careers.

As the day progressed, attendees delved into hands-on workshops. They navigated the intricacies of drone career skills, explored the animated dimensions with 3D Animation using Blender, under the tutelage of Instructor Stephen Burns. The students explored the art of creating Halloween videos using Adobe Express and audio voice recording including a session on Generative AI, led by Professor Gomez-Holbrook, adding a futuristic touch to the day's agenda.

A major highlight was the generous giveaway from Magma.com, a browser-based art collaboration platform facilitating creativity across communities and teams globally. All students and teachers who attended received a three-month free software subscription, a gesture that significantly broadened the learning resources available to them, enabling a deeper exploration into digital artistry and collaboration.

Wacom, renowned for its high-quality displays and tablets for professional artists and designers, also joined hands to support the event. The excitement was palpable as five lucky students were gifted with a One by Wacom tablet, a tool that could serve as a stepping stone in their digital design journey. These tablets are bound to provide an impetus for these budding artists to explore and enhance their creativity further.

Angela Allison, CEO of 2CPR Group, highlighted the importance of such industry-education connections, stating, "Linking industry-leading companies to education is vital for real-world exposure and shows the commitment of companies in education.” 2CPR Group played a pivotal role in connecting Magma and Wacom with the event, enriching the experience for all attendees.

As the sun cast long shadows, marking the end of a thrilling Halloween day, the echoes of laughter and discovery reverberated through the halls of Coastline College. The Digital Media Pathway Day had not only unveiled the enigmatic veil of drone technology and digital design but had also sown seeds of curiosity and aspiration among the young minds. The day’s eerie yet enlightening adventure left a lasting spell of inspiration, urging the students to chase the phantom of their digital dreams as they ventured into the unknown realms of creativity.
