2CPR Group is proud to support the California Film & Television Tax Credit Program 2.0 – Career Readiness Initiative, which aims to provide students with the necessary skills and experience to pursue a career in the film and television industry. The program requires all applicants to participate in career-based learning and training programs approved by the California Film Commission (CFC).

To meet this requirement, applicants may choose from several methods of participation, including paid internships, classroom workshops, studio employment and professional skills tours, faculty externships, and financial contributions to local educational agencies or higher education institutions specializing in arts, media, and entertainment career-oriented programs.

2CPR Group has connected K-12 and community college clients and teachers with the program and facilitated on-set externships on multiple productions. These externships provide an opportunity for students to work with professionals in the film industry and gain hands-on experience. The company is committed to connecting industry and the classroom across all pathways, and this program has become a model for collaboration between the two.

  • Paid internships are one of the ways that applicants can participate in the program. Applicants are required to provide three paid internship positions for a minimum of 75 hours each or a combination of internships with a minimum of 75 hours per student and a total of 225 hours. Internship experience should include working with professionals in the film industry and hands-on work assignments. It's important to note that interns must be 18 years of age or older. Any productions utilizing interns in technical craft positions need to notify the applicable union representative prior to the start of the internship.

  • Classroom workshops are another way to participate in the program. Applicants are required to provide a minimum of eight (8) hours of classroom workshops or demonstrations on aspects of the film industry, including set operations, post-production, and specific technical crafts conducted by entertainment industry professionals.

  • Studio employment and professional skills tours are also an option. Applicants are required to provide a minimum of eight (8) hours of studio employment and professional skills tours to students enrolled in an accredited high school or community college. This may include a set visit and/or set construction, wardrobe department, art department, and editorial department.

  • Faculty externships are designed to provide continuing education for educators and/or faculty. Applicants are required to provide a minimum of eight (8) hours of faculty externships to observe the set operations, post-production, and other specialized departments.

  • Finally, financial contributions are an option for those who wish to support local educational agencies or higher education institutions specializing in arts, media, and entertainment career-oriented programs. The financial contribution is based on .25% of the estimated tax credit reservation, with a minimum of $5,000 and a maximum of $12,000 (more may be contributed, if desired).

In conclusion, the California Film & Television Tax Credit Program 2.0 – Career Readiness Initiative provides an excellent opportunity for students to gain the necessary skills and experience to pursue a career in the film and television industry. Through collaboration between industry and the classroom, we can help prepare the next generation of professionals for success.
